There are plenty of books and websites where you can research more about island getaways for adventure seekers if you're having trouble deciding.
A lesser known island chain to think about in the USA are the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest's Washington State. This is a particularly popular spot for kayakers because the waters are ideal. This is how you travel from one island to another, via water craft. Most kayakers depart from Roche Harbor and head to Lime Kiln Point State Park, a wonderful stop off for nature lovers. Through the months of May to October you may see pods of killer whales. Although they don't normally bother boaters you are required by law to stay 50 feet away from them. When visiting the San Juan Islands you may also get to see the majestic bald eagle and sometimes even porpoises.
Still another popular island for adrenaline freaks is Bali which is found in Indonesia. This island is a prime location for mountain bikers because of the incredible terrain and scenery. In the town of Ubud you will find single track paths for walkers and bikers to enjoy. There are other places to bike also, including the challenging trail from the Penelokan village to Lake Batur. Bali is also a great area in which to fish, boat, swim or hike. The exotic architecture, old-world charm and gorgeous landscape are three more reasons to visit this island.
The chances for island thrill seekers do not stop there. You can hike up a volcano in Hawaii or go parasailing in Aruba. No matter where you choose to visit there is sure to be a variety of exciting pursuits to enjoy. Top tourist destinations understand there are visitors who want a relaxing vacation by the sea and visitors who want to participate in adventurous activities. Therefore you will find a great mix of both at popular island vacation spots around the world.
